Chris is the founding pastor of City Reformed Church. In 2012, with a freshly minted PhD in theology from Marquette University, Chris sensed God’s call to plant a Reformed church in city-center Milwaukee. Chris is not a Wisconsin native, but grew up in Florida where he learned to love surfing and fishing. He met his wife Kate while studying philosophy at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Kate and Chris were married in 2000 and lived in a variety of places before settling down in Milwaukee. Kate and Chris have two children, Tess and Van. Chris has an MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary, has studied theology at the University of Tubingen in Germany and has taught theology at Yale University. While Chris spent a lot of time in academia and is always working on some writing project, he has a very strong sense of his place in the local church as a pastor-theologian. In Wisconsin he does not get many opportunities to surf or fish, but he does enjoy swimming, cooking and working in the garden with his daughter.
The role Alan has in ministry is to lead, develop, and coordinate specific areas of church life. He provides guidance and resources to community groups, supports initiatives that engage the congregation with serving and evangelistic opportunities, helps connect volunteers and new members with places they can use their gifts to serve, and supports new ministry initiatives and special projects. The role Alan has in administration is to cultivate a healthy staff culture, oversee communications, and manage business matters related to finances, building, giving, and other operations that keep the church running smoothly. Alan and his wife Jane joined the church in 2018 and Alan became a staff member in 2023. Before joining the staff at CRC, Alan spent 32 years as senior consultant and vice-president for Meitler Consultants guiding churches and schools in strategic and pastoral planning, viability studies, expansion plans, reorganization plans, setting vision, and managing change. Alan and Jane are blessed with their son Jeff who is married to Stacey, their daughter Andrea, and one grandchild Jonathan. As a couple Alan and Jane delight in experiencing God through His wonderful creation on many adventures traveling, kayaking, hiking, and skiing.
